Data and Privacy

How Recipe Book uses data

This page explains which site features use browser or personal data and how your privacy choice affects them.

Essential operation

The site processes basic request and security information needed to deliver pages safely. It also stores one essential browser preference containing only your accepted or declined privacy choice.

Cloudflare Turnstile action protection

Public pages remain directly readable by visitors and search engines. Cloudflare Turnstile may run an invisible background check while a visitor reads the site, and the Recipe Book server requires a valid result before protected forms or other state-changing actions continue.

Cloudflare may process security signals such as the client IP address, TLS fingerprint, User-Agent header, site key, and associated origin. These signals are used for bot detection, blocking malicious traffic, and improving Turnstile protection.

Turnstile is not analytics or advertising. Its background security check and protected-action validation operate independently of the optional privacy choice because bot protection is necessary for the security and availability of the site.

Features enabled after acceptance

The following optional processing remains off until you accept:

  • Recipe downloads use a random browser token and record the recipe, file format, access type, and download time so free and unlimited access can be enforced.
  • PayPal contributions send transaction details to PayPal. Download access also asks for an email address, which is encrypted at rest and used to manage the access pass.
  • The Favorites page can send a one-time recipe collection to an email address you provide. The address is encrypted at rest and retained with its delivery preference so unsubscribe requests can be honored.
  • A recipe page can send a one-time ingredient and supply shopping list to an email address you provide. The address is encrypted at rest and retained with its delivery preference so unsubscribe requests can be honored.
  • The footer subscription form requires a separate unchecked agreement for recipe and news mailings, including occasional promotional messages. A confirmation link must then be used before any recurring messages are enabled. The address and token are encrypted at rest, and every content email provides an unsubscribe link.
  • Recipe ratings store the selected score, submission time, and email address. The address is encrypted at rest, while a keyed irreversible fingerprint prevents the same address from rating the same recipe more than once. A one-time thank-you email is sent after a successful rating.
  • NewTXT loads only after acceptance to translate public page content. The provider receives the current public page URL and translatable page text, while form controls and sensitive routes remain excluded.
  • Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity load only after acceptance. Google Analytics measures privacy-safe page views, recipe engagement, filters, downloads, subscriptions, contact conversions, and verified purchases without sending search terms, email addresses, payment tokens, or other URL query data. Clarity provides masked session recordings, heatmaps, clicks, and scroll analytics. Neither service loads in administration areas, on download access pages, or on PayPal confirmation pages.

Mailing and promotional message consent

Mailing consent is optional, separate from the general site privacy choice, and never preselected. The site records the consent version and confirmation time. After email confirmation, newly published recipes or news may trigger an editorial email, and messages may include promotional calls to action related to Recipe Book content.

The unsubscribe link in every message allows recurring content emails to be paused for one month or consent to be withdrawn at any time. Unsubscribing stops future recurring content and promotional emails; using an unrelated one-time email feature does not restart them.

Contact enquiries

The Contact page stores the name, reply email, and message you submit so the enquiry can be reviewed and answered. These fields are encrypted at rest, are available only to authorized administrators, and do not subscribe the address to newsletters or promotional messages.

What happens when you decline

You can continue browsing recipes, collections, and news. Ratings, recipe downloads, emailed shopping lists and favorite collections, content subscriptions, PayPal contributions, translation, and optional data-collection scripts stay disabled, and a small reminder remains at the bottom of the page. Strictly necessary Cloudflare Turnstile protection continues to guard state-changing actions.

Change your choice

Use the button below or the Privacy choices control in the footer at any time. Withdrawing acceptance reloads the page so optional scripts stop running.
